Testing Vibration Reduction (VR) on a Nikon P5100

The first set of pictures were taken in a steady wind.
The second set of pictures the wind was steady but not as strong, and were taken about a week later than the first.

The results go against the advice that the VR should be turned off if the camera is mounted on a tripod, I can only say that VR on worked best for me.

VR on f6.1 at 1/61 sec


VR off  f7.9 at 1/56 sec   Nothing in the picture appears in focus, so it can't be a focus problem.

VR on  f7.6 at 1/122 sec

VR off  f7.6 at 1/64 sec    Nothing in the picture appears in focus, so it can't be a focus problem.
